Volunteer tutor at the English Tutoring Center, San Francisco State University Presently working for the Learning Assistance Center at SFSU I enjoy watching a student accomplish certain goals through honest commitment. Reading and writing has always been my specialty, but I remember how I struggled with Algebra in college. With a little help from a tutor I was able to overcome my fear and difficulties in that subject and my self esteem soared. Watching others achieve their goals and overcoming obstacles is always a thrill. Besides this I simply enjoy scholastics and helping others with reading and writing strategies. - Knowledge of issues of composition theory, research, and classroom practice. - Adept at one-to-one tutor conferencing. - Knowledge of sociolinguistics in Composition. - Awareness of theory and practice of responding to linguistic, stylistic, and rhetorical issues in student writing. - Familiar with the integration of reading and writing from both rhetorical and pedagogical perspectives. - Knowledge of the theory and practice of designing post-secondary reading and composition courses. - Ability of identifying and diagnosing specific reading/basic-literacy problems (including those related to initial writing and spelling skills) and can develop effective strategies for attacking these problems. - Mac and PC proficient.
