Education

Bachelor's degree in English from S. F. State, and CLAD Teaching Credential in English from S. F. State. Teaching Credential in Math as well.

Experience

I've taught in the classroom for 15 years, first in ESL, then English, and my final two years in math. I needed to retire from classroom teaching due to health issues, but I am excited to work one on one with students. I've enjoyed math since I was a teenager, and have taken Calculus 1, 2, and 3. I ended up teaching English, partly because my wife loves literature. But I decided to return to my first true love in my final two years of classroom teaching. Because I love the subject so much, I've continued studying math since my retirement, including Calculus, both at City College and online with Richard Delaware of Missouri University. Looking at the span of mathematical development, it's a remarkable achievement that makes possible building skyscrapers, writing computer programs, and sending tools into space to destroy oncoming asteroids. How can we not be excited about all that cool stuff? You should know that I am a conscientious teacher, who spends more time preparing for our tutoring sessions (no charge for prep time) than the time of the tutoring session itself. I am very dedicated. If you wish to contact the principal of the high school from which I retired, I can provide that to you.

Hobbies

I'm very patient and easygoing on the one hand, but extremely serious about doing a good job on the other. I enjoy chess, yet I laugh easily! I'm a big Giants fan, so much so that sometimes I get too nervous to watch the game. My wife and I have a greyhound, and we spend a lot of time at the park with our greyhound friends. My wife's a great cook and I'm a great eater, so we're the perfect match. I've worked with kids outside the classroom as well. I volunteered for years at Raphael House for homeless mothers and their children in the Tenderloin of San Francisco. I didn't tutor there, but I did read at story time, even making up new stories myself, and I prepared part of the dinner and ate with the families.
