Experience

I am currently an education specialist in the East Bay working at a middle school and am a SAT teacher. In my teaching I focus on differentiated learning to help all learners access the curriculum. I work with students with all types of strengths and needs and have experience working with students who are academically strong and motivated and trying to push themselves to the next level, as well as working with students with learning disabilities who struggle in school and need motivation and support in finding their strengths. With a special education background, my teaching philosophy in working with students with special needs is based on growth mindset psychology and student empowerment. I have worked with all ages of students from 3 to 20, helping them master all content areas from learning basic letter sounds to SAT test prep and college applications. I have 10+ years of tutoring experience and am ready to get to know you or your student and support you in accomplishing your goals. I love to get to know my students and learn about their interests, passions and goals and help them build the missing link they need to get them there whether that's learning the material using a three different modalities or just providing additional practice and guidance. I started my official career in education after being selected from thousands of candidates to join Teach for America. I have since continued worked with students in a variety of ways. I was selected from a group of elite teachers to serve as a mentor and district liaison for the Ivy League Connection and took top performing juniors and seniors in my school district to visit five Ivy League schools and the complete a month long summer course at University of Chicago.
