Private tutor in San Francisco, CA
SFSU - BA, English with Computer Science Minor
In 1981, I graduated from San Francisco State University with my Bachelor of Arts in English. I minored in Computer Science. After college, I started working in Silicon Valley as a project manager and programmer. I've worked for several companies, such as Intuit as a Quicken project manager. I also spent time at Aclara BioSciences, where I served as a biotech manager and programmer. I began teaching philosophy and computer science to middle and high school students in 2006. I'm currently working in Hillsborough, California, at the Nueva School. My most passionate topics are English and computer science, but I am capable of tutoring in an array of subjects. I teach from a growth mindset, which means that I believe that we can improve our abilities by actively trying. I aim to teach my students that they can succeed in learning. Whether a student needs to improve their essay editing skills or wants to prepare for their upcoming AP computer science final, I am confident that we can work together to improve their academic abilities. When I'm not teaching students, I enjoy playing and watching sports, particularly baseball and basketball. I also like to go backpacking and fly-fishing, as well as read.
