EducationGrinnell College - BA, Sociology
ExperienceEnglish and literature are my favorite subjects to tutor and teach, while I am also well-versed in poetry as I know how difficult it can seem initially but how rewarding it is when someone gets comfortable with reading/writing a poem. I teach reading, writing, phonics, grammar, psychology, American literature, literary analysis, persuasive writing, AP English Literature and Composition, and social sciences. I teach reading and writing up to the 12th grade level. It is always fun to see how students interpret materials in their own way. I also really like connecting one on one, as I can be more invested in their success. A comfortable, personal teaching style reflects my view that education can and should be enjoyed by all students from all walks of life. While attending Grinnell College, I taught at a prison, tutoring incarcerated men in English, grammar, and literary analysis. I also was a co-teacher at a 6-week Speech and Debate class. This is one of the most memorable experiences I have from college. Living in San Francisco, California, I spend my free time enjoying stand-up comedy. I also enjoy hiking, acting, spoken word, and community organizing when I am not working in school or tutoring.
