Experience

I graduated from UC Davis with a degree in both Psychology and English Literature. I have a strong background in writing, having initiated workshops to go analyze and strengthen student writing. My experience in the workshops was helpful in searching for themes, building theses, and editing various drafts of essays. I love to help others with their writing, particularly at the high school level. Whether it's college entrance essays, the SAT writing portion, or upper level essays, I can work with a student to bring out their own personal thoughts and style (without imposing my own).  As an avid student of great literature, I love to share my enthusiasm with students. My approach is to look beyond the text in order to gain a clearer context for the work, looking at the culture, history, and themes of the text's period. This draws out more understanding for the student and makes the reading more enjoyable. When I'm not tutoring, I love to be active with activities such hiking, skiing, and mountain biking. I am always searching for new experiences and never want to stop learning.
