Education

University of Iowa - Bachelors, Japanese Literature and Language , Tama Art University - Masters, Graphic Design

Experience

I earned two bachelor's, one in fine art and one in Japanese Language and Literature. I spent a summer in Tokyo attending the International Christian University. It was there that I became deeply interested in Japan. I spent a year at Meiji University, studying for my undergraduate degree. I enrolled in Tama Art University in Tokyo to earn my masters in typography. While I worked on my degree, I worked part and full time at a school teaching the English language. Later, I worked at Dentsu, the largest advertising agency, and the Goal, a fashion advertising agency. 10 years later, I moved to the San Francisco-Bay Area. As a Japanese language tutor, I introduce students to the traditions, language, and history - valuable components to thoroughly understanding the language. I can tutor advanced and college-level Japanese language, culture, and history material, as well as graphic design, computer science, and ESL/ELL. When I work with a student, I believe it is important that I remain patient and understanding as they learn. I allow them to set the pace, progressing as they master each concept. I incorporate a variety of activities as I teach to engage and interest my students. In my free time, I enjoy fashion design and music.
