Hello! My name is David Aspinall, and I am a recent graduate of Dartmouth College with a BA in Cognitive Science, an interdisciplinary major between Psychology, Neuroscience, and Computer Science, as well as a completion of the Pre-med track. I have twice worked as a teaching assistant for an introductory computer science class of over 100 students, 10 of whom I taught independently concepts that were not covered in class, as well as grading and giving feedback on their coursework. Along with the responsibilities for these 10 students, I also individually tutored students who requested help, graded exams for the entire class, and staffed lab hours to offer assistance on students' homework. I greatly enjoyed this job, as it gave me a fantastic opportunity to get to know my 10 students on a more personal level, as well as introduce them and help them work through their first experiences with computer science. I also served as a Safety Coordinator for Dartmouth's First Year Trips program, which assigns new freshman to wilderness trips led by upperclassmen. In this role, I trained over 300 trip leaders in wilderness emergency care, CPR, and several safety protocols to be ready for any eventuality while in the woods. Although not strictly academic tutoring, this experience gave me fantastic skills in how to approach a different form of education. I have always loved tutoring because it is a fantastic way to get to know someone in terms of how they learn and how they approach academic pursuits. I've always found that I've been much better equipped to succeed when I have been able to learn one on one with a tutor, professor, or classmate. I've absolutely benefitted from tutors in the past, and would like to help other people to give them the advantage I had. Many of my absolute favorite activities happen outdoors; I love to ski, hike, run, swim, play lawn games, or just be able to sit outside and enjoy it. When I'm inside, you can most likely find me reading a book, drawing, or watching movies! I've recently moved to San Francisco, and have been greatly enjoying wandering around the city and getting to know and love the area!
