I graduated from Yale University in May 2014 with a B.A. in comparative literature. Beginning in my senior year of high school and continuing throughout my time at Yale, I tutored middle and high school students in a variety of subjects, including SAT preparation, college essay writing, Spanish, reading comprehension, algebra 1 & 2, calculus AB, and AP chemistry. During a gap year that I took after high school, I lived in Guatemala and spent my afternoons volunteering at an afterschool program, helping elementary through high school students with their school work. I taught math, reading, and science, while communicating only in Spanish. During college, I spent a summer in Mauritius, teaching theater and academic subjects to underprivileged students, ages 6-20. My work that summer culminated in two groups of students performing original plays for their communities. I also assistant-directed high school students in New Haven, CT in a performance of the musical "Broken Chains." I took a year off during college to work as field coordinator in Guatemala for an international non-profit organization that provides educational infrastructure support to underserved communities. As my experience demonstrates, I feel passionately about education. When I tutor, I tailor my teaching methods to the strengths, weaknesses, and goals of each student and also to the desires of the student's parents. I teach students to take a healthy and effective attitude towards their work, even while I provide clear and thorough explanations of content. I specialize in tutoring high school students in English literature and writing (including college essay writing), SAT and ACT preparation, and all levels of Spanish.
