Education

Hi, my name is Caius, I graduated from UC Berkeley six ago and have been working as a math tutor in the SF Bay, Boulder, CO & Orange Co. on and off. Currently I am in Marin County! I offer instruction in all Calculus courses (I-III) to both college and high school students. A little about me: I've loved math since I was a very young kid, taught and inspired by my mom. I participated in Math Olympiads on the national level in Romania, where I grew up. In high school, by which time I was already living in California, I scored a perfect math SAT score, 5's on both AP Calculus tests, and received an award as math student of the year from my Calculus teacher. During college, I studied conservation and natural history with an emphasis in mathematics, and my math coursework included: Multi-variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Mathematical Logic, Differential Equations. A review from a previous student: "Caius really stepped in for me when I was struggling with a new calculus teacher who had no idea what the course content was herself. He helped explain concepts to me that I had repetitively struggled with before looking for help and is a very patient and extremely intelligent tutor. I was a senior at Berkeley High taking AP Calc last year, and with the help of Caius, I'm now at UC Santa Cruz and have a very strong calculus base. Along with some college credit from the AP course. I highly recommend him as a tutor." - Sami, student at Berkeley High School

Experience

Old SAT Math Score: 800/800 Calculus AB: 5/5, Calculus BC: 5/5 Tutoring professionally has been my main occupation for the last four years, since graduating from college; I have experience working with middle school, high school, and college students. I really enjoy talking about math and seeing students' faces light up with that "a-ha!" realization. Here are a few reviews from previous students: “Caius was the best math tutor I ever had! He's really patient and explains everything really clearly and well. I never would have passed algebra without him!" -Hannah, Berkeley City College "We'll be setting up more sessions with Caius! He was clear and helpful in explaining concepts that our son was struggling to understand. Our son went from anxious and worried to grateful for having help. I wish we'd started earlier." -Alison, Corte Madera mother

Hobbies

During the last twelve years I have developed a deep interest in exploring and learning about the natural world, which has taken varying forms through time: backpacking through the coastal and inland mountains of California (and Romania), a handful of week to month long bike trips through various parts of California, exploring rivers, local hikes, hunting wild mushrooms (as well as foraging for edible plants) in the Bay Area and Oregon, as well as working at a summer camp outside Yosemite for two of my recent summers. Another part of my brain I enjoy using besides doing math and playing chess is my more artistic, creative side: I don't know if I would venture to call myself an artist but I've enjoyed playing around for fun with various media over the years, especially pencil drawing and relief wood carving. I also enjoy woodworking in any of its various incarnations and have taken any opportunity that comes up to learn bits and pieces about it, such as working at a woodworking shop on the UC Berkeley campus for a summer job while I was a student there during one summer.
