Experience

I have 3 years of tutoring experience and working with students aged 6-17. I typically tutor English critical reading and writing skills, particularly curriculum in SAT format. I have also tutored in elementary mathematics as well as basic to Advanced Placement-level biology. When I was a grade school student, the language barrier and lack of resources made it very difficult for me to learn. I first became a tutor because I needed a productive way to spend my summer vacation. I soon discovered that I really enjoy tutoring because I can provide students the extra help I did not have as a young student. I see myself in my students, and I see the potential that can be harnessed with extra academic help. Every student is unique, so there is no such thing as the perfect tutoring method. I construct lesson plans based upon my students' personality, learning style, and study habits. In this manner, I strive to provide different approaches to teaching and learning.

Hobbies

I love the great outdoors. I go running or biking whenever I get the chance. There's nothing like the feeling of zipping down a lonely road with just the sound of my own breath. When my head isn't buried in a textbook, I enjoy reading adventure novels, travel stories, and scientific articles. I love reading in bed on rainy days. I love trying different foods and learning how to prepare them. When I try something new, I challenge myself to prepare the food exactly as I had it, or even to improve it. The most difficult thing I've made was ice cream because the only thing it tasted like was creamy seawater. I'm still working on my ice cream recipe. I can, however, make a mean drunken pasta.
